Matt Baker: Our Barn in the Dales — Season 1

In the first episode, Matt and Nicola begin clearing out decades of memories and belongings, and build a new path after Mike has a fall. But with a sheep needing to be rescued and flocks to feed in the snowy fields, the day-to-day demands of farm life wait for no one.

The barn conversion gathers pace, but the Bakers face an uphill battle as foundations need digging and walls need rebuilding. And a new Welsh Mountain ram joins the Baker clan. Matt is on a mission to make life easier for his mum and dad, clearing an overgrown track through the ancient woodland so that they can once again access the woods and Janice can keep a closer eye on her sheep.

The stonemasons start rebuilding the old gingang. Nicola gives an auction-bought kitchen table some TLC. And as lambing season begins, the Bakers need to step in to save a lamb.

Matt and Nicola's ambitious plan faces a major setback when they discover that the end wall of the main barn needs to be taken down and rebuilt by the stonemasons. Out in the fields, Matt, Nicola and Janice help a struggling sheep give birth to an unusually large lamb, and Matt and Nicola reveal plans to welcome a new sheepdog puppy to the farm.

A spell of good weather allows the family to get the new roof on their barn conversion. Matt puts up a solid oak central truss in the vaulted ceiling of their new gingang kitchen, and it is time to cut and bring in the hay, while the goats need their all-important beard trims. There's also a family outing as Matt, Nicola, Janice and Mike take the 1946 Dodge to a vintage car rally.
