Fermanagh and Down get the 2009 Ulster Championship under way.Brewster Park is the venue for the preliminary round game, as last year's Ulster finalists Fermanagh begin their bid to win their first ever Ulster title, while Down will hope to build on an impressive National League campaign. Heavyweights Derry and Monaghan slug it out at Celtic Park in this first-round clash. Tyrone against Armagh is a rivalry that has defined a decade. It's been ten years since any team outside this duo have lifted the Anglo-Celt. After their defeat of Down in the preliminary round, Fermanagh can take another step toward back-to-back Ulster Final appearances. After disappointing performances last year both teams, under new management, will be hoping to progress to the last four in the Ulster Championship.

Damian Cassidy's players Derry have their biggest challenge to date as they take on All Ireland Champions Tyrone in the semi-final of the Ulster Championship at Casement Park. St Tiernach's Park, Clones is the setting for this Ulster semi-final, as minnows Antrim and Cavan battle it out for a place in the provincial decider. The two counties have had little to celebrate in recent years, but new managers Liam Bradley and Tommy Carr will be hoping for a change in fortunes.
