She is engaged to Gerardo but breaks off the engagement upon discovering his infidelity. Miguel Echánove, a humble young engineer, is captivated by María Fernanda's beauty and falls in love with her the moment they meet. However, she—smarting from betrayal—does not reciprocate his feelings; instead, she decides to use him and marry him solely to exact revenge on Gerardo. When Miguel realizes he has been deceived, he is furious and turns his back on María Fernanda. He distances himself from her, creating an opportunity for Sofía—an unscrupulous woman who has long loved Miguel—to try to win him over by any means necessary. Yet, María Fernanda eventually comes to realize her mistakes, having truly fallen in love with Miguel, and attempts to prove her remorse and the sincerity of her feelings. The path ahead will not be easy, as Gerardo and Sofía are determined to win back their respective ex-partners at all costs.
